The Greene County Probation Department is a county agency, established pursuant to Article 12 of the N.Y.S. Executive Law, under the supervision of the Greene County Legislature and the New York State Division of Probation and Correctional Alternatives.

The Probation Department is charged with ensuring community safety by providing intake, supervision, and investigation functions for the local criminal, family, and county court systems.

In addition, the Probation Department provides auxiliary services which include the collection and disbursement of fines and restitution, as well as the coordination of the Greene County Community Service Program.

The Greene County Probation Department has a full time staff of thirteen, including a Director, two Probation Supervisors, three Senior Probation Officers, four Probation Officers, two Probation Assistants, and a Clerk Typist. All professional staff are certified N.Y.S. Peace Officers.

As of April 30, 2009, the department is supervising 157 felony offenders, 241 misdemeanor offenders, 13 Juvenile Delinquents, and 33 Persons in Need of Supervision. In addition to regular office reporting, supervision includes home and field visits, alcohol and drug testing, and ongoing contact with police, employers, schools, service providers, family members, victims and others.
