Gary R. Harvey Director |
Thank you for your interest in the Greene County Highway Department.
Our goal is to effectively maintain and improve the Highway and bridge infrastructure of Greene County, for the efficient and safe use of the traveling public.
Work ranges from sweeping and plowing road and bridge surfaces, to complete deconstruction and reconstruction of both roads and bridges. | The department maintains its own fleet of light and heavy equipment and the personnel to operate and repair it.
Greene County is 653.8 square miles in size with 14 municipalities and 5 Villages. It has 261.49 miles of County roads, with 134 bridges, and 147 culvert structures measuring 4 feet in diameter or larger.
Currently the Highway Department has one main office building located at 240 West Main Street in Catskill, and four substations located throughout the County. Two of the facilities are located on the Mountaintop, Ashland and Lexington, and two are located in the valley, Coxsackie and Freehold, with one mechanic’s shop located in Athens. This summer we plan to start construction of two new highway facilities, on Route 9W in Athens and one in Hunter just off of State Route 23A. These new facilities will be replacing the Lexington and Coxsackie facilities.
Please visit our website regularly for additional information and updates on any new programs the County may introduce.
