It is your responsibility before retaining the services of a Licensed Greene County Master Electrician to be sure the electrician has an active license and the proper liability and workman’s compensation insurance.

Classes of License

CLASS A – To perform the work of Master Electrician. “Master Electrician” shall in short mean any person engaged in the installation or repair of electrical wiring, appliances or devices for heat, light or power purposes or for signaling devices operating on 50 volts or more and any person who supervises or contracts to perform the foregoing work.

CLASS B – To perform the work of Master Electrician but only for a single job or installation at one location or property. See “Waiver of Exam” below. Must have current valid license from another area that currently reciprocates with Greene County.

The municipalites that currently reciprocate with the County of Greene are as follows:

Qualifications Required

Place of Business – The applicant shall prove to the satisfaction of the Board that he/she has or will establish a place for the regular transaction of business or that he/she is exclusively employed by a person who owns or operates a plant used or occupied for commercial or industrial purposes.

Experience – The applicant shall have successfully served as a Journeyman for at least five (5) years in the electrical contracting and construction field. Trade school training may reduce the five (5) year requirement at the discretion of the Board.

Knowledge – The applicant shall have a working knowledge of electricity, and the natural laws of electricity, appliances and devices for electric light, heat, power and signaling purposes used and required in such work, combined with a practical working knowledge of the National Electrical Code. The applicant shall demonstrate this knowledge in a written examination.

Age and Citizenship – The applicant must be a citizen of the United States and must be a minimum of twenty-one years of age.

Application and License Fees – All applicants must show proof of $500,000.00 Liability Insurance.

CLASS A

APPLICATION FEE

A $50.00 fee must be paid at time of application, refundable if not eligible for testing. (This covers first testing fee.)

$20.00 fee to be paid to retest, payment must be made in advance.

$100.00 fee plus $50.00 for a sign will be required after passing the test. The annual renewal fee shall be $100.00 payable on or before the expiration date. There is a late renewal charge of $50.00.

Class B - $150.00 fee for residential, commercial/industrial, $150.00 if job is under 5000 square fee, $500.00 if over 5000 square feet, (One job only). This license is renewable once at $50.00. If the job is not completed at the end of two years the applicant must file another application and submit a fee of $100.00.

Classes of Licenses

Homeowner’s Permit – “Homeowner Electrician” shall mean and include any person who owns a single family dwelling and resides therein in Greene County. Said licenses is valid for only one year and is limited to electrical work on the homeowner’s residence. Notwithstanding the above, a “Homeowner Electrician” shall not include person who constructs a residence upon a vacant building lot or replaces an entire service. 1200 Square feet maximum limit on work done.

The Homeowner must fill out an Application and send it to the Board. He/she will be requested to appear before the Board for an interview to satisfy them that he/she is qualified to do the work in question. At that time he/she will fill out an Inspection Application. Upon payment of the fee the permit will be issued.

Special Electrician – Shall mean and include any person who is in the exclusive employ of the owner, lessee or manager of a building, plant or structure and whose employment consists wholly of the work of maintaining or repairing electrical wiring, apparatus, fixtures, devices, appliances and equipment utilized or designed for the utilization of electricity for light, heat, or power purposes or for signaling systems. Work outside this sphere are not covered by this license.

Application and License Fees

Homeowner’s Permit – the fee for Homeowner is $50.00. The permit runs for one year. The Homeowner is responsible for any inspection fees.
